The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of productive activities of the elderly on ego integrity and gerotranscendence, and to analyze the mediating effects of ego integrity. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted on elderly people over 60 years old residing in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk - do province in South Korea. The study analyzed 373 cases (132 male,, 241 female:). To examine the effects of productive activities on gerotranscendence, multiple regression analysis was conducted, and the Sobel test was used to analyze the mediating effects of ego integrity. The results of this study are as follows. First, a higher educational level resulted in a better health status, and a higher economic status resulted in higher ego integrity. Second, the existence of economic activity among the elderly's productive activities did not have a significant effect on gerotranscendence and ego integrity. However social participation activities had positive effects on ego integrity and gerotranscendence. Third, ego integrity had a mediating effect on the relationship between social participation activities and the gerotranscendence. The results of this study confirmed that there is a link between ego integrity and gerotranscendence, and the importance of gerotranscendence is recognized as a new concept to explain the old age through the result of this study. In addition, we suggested that the role of social welfare practice field and policy should center on the developmental tasks for desirable aging.
