ABSTRACT
This study investigated the research trends of Korean fathers with young children. In the present study a
total of 249 papers published in the KCI journals from 1990 to 2016 were analyzed. Research journals
concerning Korean fathers with young children were reviewed in terms of related variables (research
themes) and research methods (research subject, research design, data collection, and scale). The number of
researches per decade are 20 (1990-1999), 65 (2000-2009), and 164 (2010-2016). The results showed that
the most constantly visited theme in researches on Korean fathers is the relationship between the fathers'
characteristics and their children's development. The main subjects in Korean fathers research are
preschoolers. Questionnaire methodology and cross-sectional research design is the most frequently used
methodology in research on fathers while valid and reliable scales for further research should be developed.
Also, researchers showed relatively more interest in diverse topics during 2010-2016. However, research on
fathers with infants should be expanded.
