ABSTRACT

The study aimed to systematically synthesize the life satisfaction and adjustment-related variables of the elderly by meta-analysis. Also, the study aimed to verify whether there were differences on effect sizes depending on the moderator variables (type of thesis, date of publication, gender, occupation, volunteering experience, and participation method). For the analysis, 102 studies on the relation between life satisfaction and adjustment were analyzed. The results showed that the effect size of the life satisfaction of the elderly and positive adjustment was high, but the life satisfaction of the elderly and negative adjustment was moderate. According to the total effect size of life satisfaction and individual adjustment variables, quality of family relationship was the highest among the positive adjustment variables, and stress was the highest among the negative adjustment variables. The effects of the variables related to the life satisfaction and adjustment-related variables of the elderly were different according to the type of publication, publication year, gender, and participation of volunteer service. Based on the results of this study, the researchers discussed the relevance of previous studies, implications, and limitations of the research
